Sending my sincere sympathy to Trudy's family. During my years working at USC Aiken, I had the privilege of working with Trudy and developing a friendship with her. I, as a staff member, often saw firsthand her love for "her" students. She would always go out of her way to provide whatever assistance anyone needed.
I was honored to work with her and was very saddened to hear the news of her passing. May God hold you all close during this difficult time.

Gary, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember the fun we had on our China trip. I would see her around town every so often. Please accept my sympathy. I will be out of town, unfortunately, when you are holding the memorial service.

The Rose Beyond The Wall
A rose once grew where all could see,
sheltered beside a garden wall, And,
as the days passed swiftly by, it spread
its branches straight and tall...
One day, a beam of light shone through a
crevice that had opened wide--
The rose bent gently toward its warmth
then passed beyond to the other side...
The rose blooms there-- Its beauty even
greater now, nurtured by God's own loving
care.
May Trudy now rest in peace in God's loving
arms....

I'm sitting in my office saddened by the news that Dr. Henson passed- I'm also sitting here with a photo on my desk of her, me and my daughter at her retirement party and a congratulations card from her when I finally graduated (1998)- I have always kept both near to me as a small reminder of what an inspiration Dr. Henson was to me. She had the rare gift of inspiring those that sometimes needed it most- she believed in a person's potential and it motivated people/students (me) to achieve things, that at one time one, I didn't think was possible.
Thank you Dr. Henson for sharing your gifts- your guidance and goodness changed by life!

It is impossible for me to put into words how emotionally devastated I have been to hear that Trudy has left this world. The mere mentioning of her name could open my flood of tears that simply would not stop. There is a saying that when two people have deep connections, they can feel one another; and I felt Trudy on the morning of her passing. I simply didn't want to know until I got the devastating phone call. I was still stunned beyond words.
Trudy had been my dearest friend and my adopted sister. She had been there for me through thick and thin since I came to Aiken 18 years ago. She was there celebrating every one of my highlights in life: my naturalization as a citizen, my first house and my son's college and medical school graduations. In my darkest days of battling with cancer, she was the shoulder I cried on. She had been my cheerleader in good times and my rock in bad times. My loving memories of her as a devoted friend and caring sister will forever be treasured in the deepest part of my heart.
