Jeanette Wood Mahoney, 86, widow of the late Daniel James Mahoney passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Buffalo, New York on January 10, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Harold Francis and Estelle Guziec Wood. She was the oldest of seven siblings including James, Don, Ed, and Karen Wood as well as Audrey Daniels and Barbara Morrissey.
Mrs. Mahoney graduated from Holy Angels Academy for Girls and worked as a bookkeeper for Niagara Photo Engraving before moving to Aiken in 1953 and becoming a full-time Mom. She was a former member of the Catholic Woman's Association and a Girl Scout leader. Her love of family always took center stage in her life. She made it a priority to attend all events involving her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Pat (Dave) Griffith of Aiken; three sons and their wives, Mark (Betsy) Mahoney of Aiken, Daniel (Gina) Mahoney of Lexington, SC & Michael (Dawn) Mahoney of Aiken; Nine grandchildren, Kathy (Stephen) Sowards, Wesley Griffith, Marshall Mahoney, Lizzie (David) Boyer, Shannon Mahoney, Maggie Mahoney, Daniel Mahoney, Michael Wade Mahoney & Brianna Mahoney; three great-grandchildren, Will, Riley & Kate Sowards.
In addition to her parents, her siblings and her husband of 53 years, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Ann Mahoney.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the old historic St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Park Ave, with the Very Rev. Father Gregory Wilson as celebrant. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service in St. Johns UMC, Ward Hall, on Newberry St.
A private interment service will take place at a later date in Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to especially thank her caregivers, Leslie Johnston, Patrice Jackson, Sheril Gordon, Tammy Mitchell, and Trinity Hospice.
