How time flies! Although it's been 43 years, it doesn't seem that long ago that I reported to OPNAV and discovered that I was the only enlisted in the office! Then LCDR Phil F. McKnight, was the junior officer of the more than half dozen officers assigned to the division. He had a great sense of humor, was a terrific mentor and provided much wise counsel to this then young First Class Petty Officer. He was one of those officers you meet who have such a positive impact on you that you never forget them. He was one of those few....... Rest in Peace, Captain. Those of us who remain have the watch.

Phil, Barb and I spent many hours of wonderful conversation around their table in Clinton and later in Aiken. He was an involved Clinton neighbor. We spent hours sharing our faith and the traditions of the Episcopal Church, which was near and dear to our hearts. We were all enriched through our friendship with Phil and Barb.
Peace to Barb, she was a wonderful caregiver. Love and prayers, Heidi Philley

Phil was a remarkable man. I remember him with great fondness from days at COMNAVINTCOM. His sense of humor and proportion was exceptional - he always had time to mentor juniors and to remind us of what was really important (and what wasn't). He was a generous, kind man; his passing will leave an emptiness in the world. My prayers are with you all.
