Funeral services for Mr. Edwin Merrill Giddings will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2006 at 3pm at St. Paul United Methodist Church, New Ellenton, SC. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul United Methodist Church ?Leap of Faith Fund?, 600 Main St. SW New Ellenton, SC 29809. The family will receive friends at the conclusion of the services. Pallbearers will be Dennis Giddings, Mark Giddings, Curtis Giddings, Ed Giddings, Hushel Parrish and Ken Moyer. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jordan Bouknight, Terry Bouknight, Al Thomas, Walter Price, Don Sumner, Bill Gee, Nestor Washington, Ralph Waldrop, Daniel Giddings, Bip Bouknight, Winston Bennett and Tom Horsefield. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken is assisting the family.
Mr. Giddings, 82, of New Ellenton, died Friday, September 1, 2006 at Heartland Hospice in Augusta, GA. He was born in Boston, MA on April 5, 1924 and was raised in Providence, RI. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 ? 1946 and then worked for 26 years for the Canteen Corporation, a food service company, 12 years of which were spent at the Savannah River Site. After retiring in 1982, Mr. Giddings worked in Aiken as a part-time real estate agent, but his first love was playing the piano. He played part-time at Hounds Lake Country Club and afterward volunteered to play at many Aiken nursing homes and assisted living homes for several years, before becoming ill.
Mr. Giddings is survived by his wife of fifty seven years, Wilda Raxter Giddings; three sons, Dennis Edwin Giddings and his wife Diane, Aiken, Mark Remington Giddings and his wife Sharon, Aiken and Curtis Arthur Giddings and his wife Susan, Aiken; two grandsons, Robert Edwin ?Ed? Giddings and Daniel Mark Giddings; three granddaughters, Traci Giddings Moyer, Sarah Grace Giddings, Charity Rebekah Giddings; one great grandson, Brennan Giddings and three great granddaughters, Heidi Moyer, Hollie Moyer and Abigail Moyer.
