Dorothy S.Sanders, 93, passed away at the Pepper Hill Nursing Home on January 15,
2013. Services will be private and are under the care of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, Aiken.
A daughter of the late John E. and Cora Larsen Snyder, she was born in St.Paul, Minn., on October 19, 1919. Mrs. Sanders was a graduate of MacAlester College, St. Paul, Minn. Dorothy and her husband, William, retired to Aiken in 1970 where she became
active in numerous organizations including AAUW, ARMC Auxiliary, Town & Country,
Christian Women, and many more. Mrs. Sanders retired in early 1982 as Director of the
Child Development Center. She was active in volunteer organizations her entire life and
was recognized many times for her dedication and hard work. In 1984, the SC
Department of Mental Retardation dedicated a community residence, the Sanders
Residence, on Chesterfield St., Aiken, to Dorothy. She was a long time, active member
of St. Johnʼs United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Sanders was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Lt.Col. William L. Sanders
US Army Ret. and a daughter, Stephanie Leigh Sanders.
She is survived by 2 sons: William L. Sanders II Debra of Greenville, SC and James S. Sanders of Hopkins, SC; a daughter, Pamille A. Leitz Dennis of Aiken, SC; and a grandson, Donald D. Sanders of Hopkins, SC.
The family wants to thank the staffs of Pepper Hill and Infinity Hospice for their
dedication and the wonderful kindness they showed in caring for our Mom.
