I'm writing a biography for my granddaughter and mentioning going to Byrd's Barber Shop, getting my weekly crew cut, and how Mr. Byrd always asked if I'd seen his son, Leroy that week, since we were the same age. Always pleasant, always relaxed.

I am so sorry to learn that Mr. Byrd is gone. He was my barber for the past 30 years and we swapped many stories about families. I loved to hear his stories about growing up on a farm and about Navy life. Over the years he became my friend and I will miss him dearly. I wish his family well and know they can take pride in a life well lived by their father.

Our prayers go out to Mr. Byrd's Family. My mother Velta sold barber supplies to him for many years. I went by several times too and he always was so nice to me. He will be greatly missed.

Mr. Byrd was my grandson's barber since his first hair cut. He is now almost 8 and he will truly miss this great man! I took him for a cut one time when my son and daughter-in-law were away. He was just as courteous and accommodating for me as if he had known me forever. I only met him that once but will always remember him as a very special gentleman. My son and grandson will miss him deeply. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Ann Bowles

Mr. Byrd was a great man and a solid barber. My son and I were customers and frequent visitors to his shop. He called my son Rushton his "lil home run hitter" and he gave him "home-run" hair cuts. We will miss him and his wonderful stories as will you and all of Aiken.

I was a customer of Mr. Byrd's for over 33 years. I always enjoyed talking with him while getting a haircut, and sharing stories about our lives. His loss will leave a void in the community. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.

Guys you might not realize it but your Father was a great man. He helped us all over the years. I went to his shop for many years and enjoyed every minute of it. He always had some story from the past. The closing of his shop left a void in my life just as his passing will leave one in all our lives. Thank you for sharing him with us over the years.
