A memorial service for Barbara ?Buffie? Thomas will be held on Monday, May 16, 2005 at 2:30pm at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Pendleton St., Aiken, SC. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the Stevenson ? McClelland Building, adjacent the church. In June, a memorial service and interment will take place at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Weston, CT. George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel 211 Park Ave SW is assisting the family.

Mrs. Thomas, 73, of Aiken, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at her home. A daughter of the late Albert C. and Mary Jane Cornelison Buffum, she was born in San Francisco, CA. Before moving to Aiken in 2002, she had lived in Hilton Head Island for fourteen years. Prior to that, she had lived in Weston, CT for twenty years.
?Buffie?, as she was known, was a member of the Altar Guild at Emmanuel Church, Weston and enjoyed their summer home on Broadside Road, Wolfeboro Neck, NH for many years. ?Buffie? and her husband Dave enjoyed flying their Mooney between Danbury, CT and Wolfeboro Airpark. She was a member of the Hilton Head Plantation Women?s Club, the Country Club of Hilton Head, the Hilton Head Yacht Club, and the Green Thumbers, the Woodside Reserve Club, Women of Woodside and the Aiken Newcomers Club. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority of Ohio Wesleyan College and was fond of needlework, sewing and quilting. She loved to tend to her gardens with David by her side. Last June, Buffie and David celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their two children and their families in Williamsburg, VA.
She is survived by her husband, David H. Thomas, Aiken, a son; David B. Thomas and his wife Becky, Troy, MI, a daughter; Kerrie T. VanDalsum and her husband Michael, Bedford, NH, a sister; Jeanne Collins, South Bend, IN and seven grandchildren.
