Funeral service for William Cears "Bill" Church, 91, of Aiken, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Aiken. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Fred Andrea. Burial with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. Memorial donations may be made to the Aiken Lodge #156, A.F.M., PO Box 658, Aiken, SC, 29802.
Mr. Church, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Born in N. Wilkesboro, NC, he was a son of the late William Albert and Bessie Lee Eller Church. Mr. Church was a US Army Veteran of WWII, was a retired Welding Inspector with DuPont. He later opened up his on welding business, C&C Welding. Mr. Church was a member of First Baptist Church, Aiken, and was past Master Mason, with the Aiken Masonic Lodge, #156. He was a member of The Church Brothers & The Blue Ridge Ramblers. He was inducted into the Country Music Bluegrass Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Mrs. Mary Etta Church; brothers, Ralph and Jim Church and sisters, Iris Church and Melba Jean Barnett.
Survivors include: a son, William Dennis Church of Aiken; a daughter, Virginia Diane Hopper (Tim) of Aiken; sisters, Edna Crotts of Oak Ridge, NC and Doris Kearney of Pfafftown, NC; brothers, Edwin Church and Bobby Church, both of Ferguson, NC and Lloyd Church of N. Wilkesboro, NC.
