A memorial service for Ronald D. Long will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 10:30am at St. John?s United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St, NW, Aiken. The family will receive friends at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken on Wednesday from 6-8pm. The family requests memorials to his memory may be made to the Aiken Symphony Guild C/O of P.O. Mr. Long, 70, of Aiken, died unexpectedly on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at his residence. Raised in Collins, Iowa, he was one of four children born to Raymond and Freda Long. Ron attended Simpson College and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, IA. He met his wife, Linda Pingrey of Coon Rapids, IA while attending Simpson College. They were married in 1958 and would have celebrated their 50th anniversary this coming January.
Ron retired from the Maytag Corporation of Newton, IA in 2002. During his 37 year career he worked in Human Resources in Newton, Indianapolis Jenn-Air Corp. and Williston Dixie Narco Co. He was V.P. of those departments at both Jenn-Air and Dixie-Narco. Active in Rotary for many years, Ron was also an avid supporter of the Aiken Symphony Guild and participated in many other charitable organizations.
Ron?s love of golfing and fishing were obvious to all who knew him. He belonged to the Woodside Golf & Country Club and the Palmetto Golf Club. The main love of his life was that of his children and his grandchildren, who he visited as often as possible. He treasured his friendships both near and far, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father and his older brother, Marlin, of Des Moines, IA.
Ron is survived by his wife; Linda Long, Aiken, a son; Greg Long and his wife Joni, Iowa City, IA and a daughter; Leslie Forster and her husband Doug, Stillwater, MN, his mother; Freda Jones Long, Yukon, OK, a brother; Daniel Long, Chicago, IL and a sister; Carolyn Liggett and her husband Max, Yukon, OK. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Twins Katie and Tom Forster and Max and Ben Long.
