Funeral services for Mr. John Victor "Jack" Mace will take place on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 5pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken with Rev. Martha Vinson officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Mace, 84, of Montmorenci, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at his daughter's residence, under the care of Regency Hospice.
A son of the late John Mace and Inez Verdery Mace, he was born in Savannah, GA and had lived in Orangeburg, SC before moving to Aiken County in 1954. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corp during W. W. II and had then worked for twenty-nine years as a mechanic in the E & I Department of I.E. DuPont at the Savannah River Site, retiring in 1983.
Jack was well known as an energetic outdoorsman with a sometimes-sarcastic sense of humor. He enjoyed scuba diving in his younger days and liked to spend time traveling, golfing and spending time in Key West, FL and at the Tennessee Fitness Spa. He was the official "Deli-Dad" at his daughter's Stoplight Deli in Aiken, often bringing his prized Bearded Dragon Lizards Oprah and Mosey to entertain the crowds.
He is survived by his daughter; Diane Duncan Rutherfurd, Aiken, a son; Ronnie Sharon Mace, Windsor, SC, once wife and friend; Nell Mace, eight grandchildren; Travis Mace, Josh Mace, Ryan Sheeley, Fresca Rutherfurd, Duncan Rutherfurd, Emmie Mace, Annie Mace and Conner Mace. He is also survived by three, great grandchildren.
