A Mass of Christian Burial for Elizabeth Hyland ?Lib? Maloney will be celebrated Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at 11AM at St. Mary Help of Christian Catholic Church. Box 436, Aiken, SC 29802. Mrs. Maloney, 86, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at Eden Gardens Assisted Living.
Born in Chicago IL, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Florence Smith Hyland. She had lived in East Norwich, Long Island, NY before permanently moving to Aiken, SC in 1984. She volunteered for recording for the blind and Meals on Wheels. She was one of the premier show riders during the 1930s and was awarded the Alfred B. MaClay Trophy, at the National Horse Show, in Madison Square Garden in 1934, which was the highest national award for a junior. She served as a Navy WAVE during World War II.
She was predeceased by her husband, James W. Maloney, Sr., a prominent horse trainer who was inducted into the Aiken Thoroughbred Hall of Fame and the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame, Saratoga Springs, NY, her daughter, Deborah Maloney, and her son, J. Stewart Maloney.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Mary Maloney, Camden, SC, her son, James ?Woody? Woodruff Maloney, Jr., of Louisiana, her sisters, Nancy Martin, Unionville, PA, and Harriet LaRocque, Harrison, NY, and 10 nieces and nephews.
