Elsie Christine Lyons Betancourt went to be with her God on Monday, January 8th, 2007. Born on February 3, 1940, in Manhattan, NY. The loving and devoted daughter of Elsie Loretta Gerhauser, Winstead, CT and Edwin Roger Lyons, Manhattan, NY, she graduated from Cathedral High Scool. A loving wife of Donald Betancourt, and an equally loving mother to Peter Betancourt and Jeremy Betancourt, both of Aiken, and Marc Betancourt and Christopher Betancourt, both of Florida. A friend and sister to Mary Lyons predeceased, Margaret Dolson, Suffern, NY, and Edwin F. Jerry Lyons of Aiken. Elsie had a total of six grandchildren: Ariel in North Carolina and Marcelle and Kendall, Ariel, Zachary, and Savanna of Florida. Nieces and nephews abound in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Arkansas and Tennessee. She was a gifted artist, seamstress and musician and became very involved with the Aiken Community Playhouse in both professional set design and construction. Elsie spent 12 years doing set design in NY, NJ and Fl and was the better half of Theatrix. She was a paralegal and a founding board member of Uganda Spirit. Elsie Chris was an active member of Saint Gerard's Roman Catholic Parish, where she was a friend to all. She abounded in kindness, thoughtfulness and consideration for others; a life example for others. The soul of Grace. A memorial Service to celebrate Elsie's life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at St. Gerard's RC Church at 12:00 noon. Donations, in Elsie's name can be sent to the ALS Association, 27001, Agoura Road, Suite 150, Calabasas Hills, CA 91202 would be appropriate and welcomed.
