Funeral services for Mrs. Rachel Elizabeth Greer will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2006 at 2pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Avenue, SW, Aiken, with Chaplin Dexter Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the funeral home. Mrs. Greer, 89, of Aiken, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at her daughter's residence.
Mrs. Greer was born in Easley, SC to the late George E. and Esther Tinsley Black, Sr.
Mrs. Greer lived in Easley and Charleston, SC, before moving to Aiken in 1951. Rachel worked for the ship yards as a welder in World War II, and then went to cosmetology school. Mrs. Greer was an avid artist and needle point crafter, and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Greer was predeceased by her husband, Ansel DeWit Greer. Rachel is survived by her son, Dr. Douglas Grace Greer, Augusta, daughters, Joan Johnnie Stephens, Judy Wallace, both of Aiken, brothers, George E. "Buddy" Black, Jr., Carlton Black, Milford Black, grandchildren, Peggy Buyers, Charlotte Allred, Karen Leah Greer, Douglas Edwin Greer, II, Michael Wallace, Stephanie Ward, Tammie Earl, Chris Stephens, and many great grandchildren.
