AIKEN, SC- Martha H. Fite, affectionately known as Helen Schaff, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the age of 81. Born August 25, 1933 in Summerville, GA, she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Imogene Pierson Rich. She lived in Orchard Park, New York prior to making Aiken, SC her home 24 years ago. Helen enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and was a member of Woodside Plantation Country Club. Helen was also a volunteer for the Red Cross of Aiken. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife. Survivors include her husband, Burges Fite; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathleen and Joseph Szelagiewicz , Midland, Ohio, Gaye Schaff-Tomko and her husband, Mark Tomko, Warrenville, SC; and Wendy Kennedy Gahanna, of Ohio; a daughter by marriage, Linda Fite, Lexington, SC; eight grandchildren, including one granddaughter, Megan Tomko, of Aiken, SC.; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rupert J. Schaff and a sister, Ruby Gene Hill. The family will receive friends this Sunday afternoon from 2-5 PM at the home of her daughter 2470 Pine Log Rd., Warrenville, SC 29851.
