I met Capt. Piercy in November 2003 when my mother moved into Eden Gardens. My mother, Evelyn Meierkord, knew him as "Sam". He was one of the first to greet her upon her arrival. They both ate in the small dining room, and Sam always had a ready smile and a nod. They shared some interesting conversations, and Mom tells me that he was very kind to her he even tried to give her his ring!. He will be missed.
