A Funeral Mass for George Aimar Durban, Jr. will be celebrated by Rev. James LeBlanc on Monday, September 17, 2007 at 12 noon at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. The vigil service will take place at 6:15pm. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Mary Help of Christians Church Church Building Fund PO Box 438 Aiken, SC 29802 or to the Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons, PO Box 1293, Aiken, SC 29802.
Mr. Durban, 92, of Aiken, died Friday September 14, 2007 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers after a short illness.
A lifelong resident of Aiken, he was born on February 22, 1915. He was a graduate of the Aiken Institute and of Clemson College, where he was captain of the swim team. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He was president of the Durban-Laird Insurance Agency for 50 years and was a past president of the Aiken Lions Club, a former member of the Aiken Election Commission and a long-time member of the Aiken Businessman's Club.
Mr. Durban is survived by his wife of 67 years, Polly Tecklenburg Durban, Aiken; a daughter, Patrice L. David Tavernier, Chester, SC; two sons, George A., III Debbie Durban, Columbia, SC and Paul W. Durban, Aiken; a granddaughter, Anne L. Tavernier, Florence, SC; a grandson, George A. Durban, IV, Charlotte, NC and a sister, Rosamond D. McDuffie, Aiken.
