AIKEN, SC - Mary Elizabeth Ahern, age 84, entered into rest on Sunday, February 5, 2017. Mrs. Ahern was born December 16, 1932 in Exeter, N.H. to the late Frank and Ruth C. Green. She had been a resident of Aiken, SC since 1989, having previously lived in West Bloomfield, MI. Mrs. Ahern loved the history of Aiken and was a Docent and Board Member for the Aiken County Historical Museum and Docent at the Aiken Train Depot & Museum. She volunteered at OneTable for many years and was a past president of the Woodside Plantation Ladies Golf Association. She enjoyed reading and was an avid bridge and card player as well as a golfer. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ahern was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Everett J. Ahern, Jr. and a brother, James Green. She is survived by a son, Paul Ahern (Kimberly), Fenton, MI; three daughters, Carol Richards (Timothy), West Bloomfield, MI, Jeanne Peters (Todd), Bloomfield Township, MI, and Dyan Cockels (Thomas), West Bloomfield, MI; six grandchildren, Chris, Lauren, Caitlin, Anna, T.J., and Brien; and two beloved sisters-in-law, Mary Martin, Waltham, MA and Mary Ahern, Medford, MA. The family will receive friends at George Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM with a funeral service beginning at 6:00 PM. Interment will be Thursday 11:00 AM in Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Aiken County Historical Museum, 433 Newberry St SW, Aiken, SC 29801. The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving and compassionate care our mother received during her final days from her friends and the physicians and staff of the ICU at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
