A memorial service for Hobart Ezra Newton Jr. will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11am at Aiken's First Baptist Church. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends and share eulogies on Friday, April 17th from 6 to 8pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken. His career spanned many years as a design engineer and draftsman for Allstates Design and Development, Brown Boveri, The Atomic Energy Commission, RCA and GE. He received a mechanical engineering degree from Drexel Institute of Technology, Philadelphia College of Bible PCB with a diploma in Pastoral Theology. He taught at Mercer College and PCB. He designed numerous telecommunication satellites. Most notably the Tiros1. He participated in the design of the cargo bay doors of the space shuttle and the camera lens of one of the Apollo Flights.
He was predeceased by his parents, three bothers and his infant son Scott.
Mr. Newton is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Gold Newton, Aiken, SC, two daughters: Dolores Carver Dale, Hagerstown, MD and Leslie Ann Brockman Sam, Alexandria, VA, a brother, Leslie Newton, Turbotville, PA, a sister Evelyn Best, Montoursville, PA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
