A determination & resolve to use his energy to the best of his capabilities drove Doug from his youth. In accelerating through school at a rapid pace, he found Notre Dame the perfect place to mix his passions of academia & friendly-competitive athleticism & a spiritual base all of which grew within him and flowed to others during the course of his life. Being a brother to me always was a joy because he encouraged me to do the Best with what I was given from above. Now I know how he affected So Many other people the same way, and that gives me peace & comfort and the drive to carry on with his spirit guiding me. My love & thoughts are with his Aiken family he loved so dearly as they heal the next months ahead. I love you brother, see ya again up in heaven at the 19th hole Doug, Blessings, Don Wilhelm, NYC

I know this is a difficult time in your lives and Marie and I are extending our deepest sympathy. Douglas seemed to be the greatest father and grandfather a family can have. Im sure he will be missed everyday but as I am sure you know he is in a better place now and will always be with you. Be very thankfull for the time you have had with him and keep those memories alive. I lost my father a long time ago and I still think about him almost everyday. I have always told my children about what a great man he was and they feel as if they know him. You have the hard part of living without him but know that Douglas has touched many lives and been a good example of father, a husband, and a friend. I didnt know Douglas but I knew him by knowing his son and I'm sure Kevin is a reflection of the kind of man Douglas was.

It was with great shock & saddness I learned of this tragedy from Don Green. Doug was one of nicest most fun loving man I've known. His first love was his "family". I always looked forward to his visits to the beach as he stopped by to say "hi" while here. Please know the family is my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.

My prayers go out to the entire Wilhelm family. What a shock to hear this news! I have not seen Doug in many years, but was thrilled that we spoke to each other over the phone roughly 2 years ago and caught up on what has transpired in our lives since childhood. I will fondly remember all of our good times playing Kick the Can, Ghost in the Graveyard, softball, etc. during the summer months. Again my condolences to the entire family, he surely will be missed. Carolyn

To the Wilhelm Family:
Doug was a very special friend. He and I would kid each other at work over peppermint paddies. He could see through the fog and provide a path to sunshine. I will miss Doug, but he is resting now and waiting for the next ND Victory. I am truly honored to say Doug was my friend. Please accept my condolences.
