Thoughts and prayers are with the family. Mr. Sears was a wonderful man. I am truly saddened to hear. But I know he is doing much better now in His loving hands.

Those of us who were lucky enough to know Dick Sears were sadden to hear about the passing of this very special man. I was fortunate enough back in 1992 to meet Richard at the Palmetto Golf Club where we came to share our common love of golf along with the club's great history. He was blessed with a clever mind and dry wit which led to many memorable dinner conversations thru the years often conducted within a cloud of Dick's cigarette smoke. I received and fortunately saved some half dozen of Dick's letters-neatly typed on his old manual Underwood-all of which were carefully written and hilarious to read. We've all lost a great friend raised with an "old school" sense of values and style that's become a rare commodity in these times-I will greatly miss his friendship.

Dick you were one of the first people we met when we moved to Aiken in 2000. You became our neighbor and we frequently saw you as we walked our dogs past your home. You loved pets as evidenced by the way you doted on your beloved hounds. We looked forward to seeing you every Saturday morning at Waffle House, where without fail you would be working your cross word puzzle. We valued your easy smile and kind words. We suffered with you as you gallantly fought your battle to the end. Our lives in Aiken were enriched by having known you. Rest in Peace our friend.

I worked with Dick for several years as officers/Trustees of The Friends of Hopelands & Rye Patch. He did an excellent job as Treasurer, even though he was still typing checks on his old manual typewriter! He had a great sense of humor and was a joy to work with. He will be missed, but is certainly in a better place where his suffering is over. Good bye, my friend.
