George D. Crowley, Jr., born in New York City, died at the age of 81 on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
He was predeceased by his parents, George D Crowley and Minnie Durnan Crowley, his daughter Nancy Sumner, and his three wives, Dolores, Marylyn and Kathleen. He leaves his children, George D. Crowley, III Karen, Jamesville, NY, Mary P. D'Onofrio Michael, Columbus, OH, Anne Marie McKnight Jack, Freeport, NY, Kathleen J. Artus Peter, Bartlett, TN, Karen M. Sumner John, Clive, IA, and John C. Crowley Barbara, Wantagh, NY; his sisters, Marion Young, Ponce Inlet, FL and Dorothy Feaheny Thomas, Rochester Hills, MI; his grandchildren, Brian D'Onofrio, Kenneth D'Onofrio, Terrence D'Onofrio, Jack McKnight, Timothy McKnight, Patrick Artus, Dylan Artus, John C. Crowley Jr., Ashley Blackford, Allison Sumner and great grandson, Salvatore D'Onofrio.
He was a US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and fought at The Battle of Chosin Reservoir during the bitter winter of 1950. Those who survived were know as "The Chosen Few". After completing his service, he had a long career with the US Post Office on Long Island and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Freeport, NY.
A funeral Mass for Mr. George D. Crowley, Jr. will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 11:30am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken is assisting the family of Mr. Crowley.
