Obituary of Effie G Cox

            Effie Garvin Cox, 91, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 22, 2018 following an extended illness.

            Born in Aiken County, SC she was the daughter of the late Holley & Mamie Fox Garvin. Mrs. Cox had retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections and had worked many years in the sewing industry. She was a member of Elko Baptist Church and was also a member of the Ballentine Chapter No. 280, Order of the Eastern Star.

            Surviving are her brother, Laurie E. (Louise) Garvin of Seffner, Fl; 2 daughters, Louise C. Smith of Gloverville, SC & and Ada “Necia” C. (Johnny) Free of Irmo, SC; 2 sons, Charles L. (Moreen) Cox of Vancouver, WA and Jimmy D. (Fran) Cox of Lexington, SC; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply.

            In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was pre-deceased by her husband of 44 years, Charles W. Cox; a son-in-law, Ronell Smith; 2 sisters, Carthell Kinard & Beulah G. Willingham; and two brothers, P.B. Garvin & H.L. Garvin.

            Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, August 2nd at 2:00p.m. in the George Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jason Redd officiating. Interment  will follow in Aiken Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Russell Cox, Jonathan Cox, Nathan Cox, Philip Kennedy, Allen Reece, Ben Atkinson, Tommy Free, Everett Cashion and Jake Hudson.          

            The family will receive friends on Wednesday August 1st from 6:00p.m. until 8:00p.m.at the historic George Funeral Home, 211 Park Ave. SW, Aiken, SC 29801.

            Memorials may be made to Darien Baptist Church, 1362 Hatchaway Bridge Road, Aiken, SC 29801, Elko Baptist Church, 7467 Bay Street, Elko, SC 29826 or the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, 199 Willow Run Road, Aiken, SC 29801.

            Mrs. Cox had a deep love for God, Country, and all God’s creatures. She was a loving Mama and Bama and was loved by all.
