A Mass of Christian Burial for James Joseph Hamilton will be celebrated on Monday, January 3, 2005 at 10am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken. Pallbearers will be James W. Burch, Robert H. Burch, Daniel J, Burch, Gregory A. Heffron, Marcus C. Burch and James S. Walker, Sr. Interment, with military honors, will take place at 3pm at Beaufort National Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 6-8pm at George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken.
Mr. Hamilton, 85, of Aiken, Died Monday December 27, 2004 at his residence. A son of the late Thomas S. and Madeline Herberger, he was born in Brooklyn, NY and had lived in Aiken since 1970. He spent his career in the United States Military, serving first in the Army and then the Air Force. He saw action as a medic in WW II, Korea & Viet Nam. After his retirement in 1970, he began his second career at the Food Stamp office of DSS in Aiken. James was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and a member of the SC Retired Employee Association. He was an opera buff and never missed NPR on Saturdays from the Metropolitan Opera House in NYC.
He is survived by his brother, Thomas Francis Hamilton, Aiken and Greenport, NY, a sister; Patricia Burleson, N. Charleston, SC, and several nieces and nephews, including: James & Susan W. Burch and their Children, Brett and Patrick Burch, Blythewood, SC, Robert H. Burch, Aiken, Dr. Daniel & Dr. Patricia J. Burch and their children Lauren, Kathleen, Olivia, and Andrew, Durham, NC, Thomas & Cheryl A. Burch and son, Nicholas, Columbia, SC, Gregory & Susan A. Heffron and children Drew, Blaine, Chase & Elizabeth, Mt. Pleasant, SC, Marcus & Dr. Barbara C. Burch and children, Ian & Eleanor, Abbeville, SC and P. Michelle Burch and children Alexis & Taelor, Aiken.
