Obituary of Gaetan Philip Ouimet

Passed away with his family by his side on Monday, April 28, 2008. He was 74.
Gaëtan or "Phil" as he was known in Aiken, was born in 1932 in Messena, NY to Amanda and Joseph Ouimet. He served in the US Air Force from 1952 until 1960 and served in the Korean War. Upon leaving the service, Gaëtan attended Jersey City State College in NJ, where he earned his BS in Art. He worked for the Berkeley Heights Board of Education in NJ as an art teacher, first in the Elementary Schools, then in the Middle School until his retirement in 1995. He and his wife moved from Bridgewater, NJ to Aiken in 2002.
Gaëtan will be remembered for his generosity, quirky sense of humor and his love of his family and friends. His advice left an impact upon many people who knew him. He enjoyed the stock market, paintball, blackjack, and if you had a question about history, you knew who to call!
He is survived by his wife Carole Ouimet of Aiken, SC, sister Carmen Edmund Froude of NJ, daughter and son-in-law Renee and Jay Markiewicz of Aiken, SC, son David Ouimet of Brunswick, GA, 3 grandchildren Zachary, Andrew and Evan Markiewicz of Aiken, SC, 5 nieces and nephews Aimee Mark Zschack of NJ, Edmund Susan Froude of NJ, Roger Froude of NY, Keith Lisa Froudeof NJ, and Suzanne Frank Cordaro of NJ, in addition to numerous cousins, aunts and uncles mostly of Canada.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Garden at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heartland Hospice, 1365 Interstate Parkway, Augusta, GA 30909. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center is assisting the family.
