Mrs. Valerie Brown Redd, 88, died on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at her home in Winterville, NC
Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, May 7, 2007 at 10am at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, GA for family and friends with Rev. Coile Scarborough officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, May 6, 2007 from 5-7pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Avenue, SW, Aiken. Memorial contributions may be directed to the University Health Systems Hospice Care, P.O. Box 6028, Greenville, NC 27835-9978.
Mrs. Redd was a native and longtime resident of Aiken. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Savannah River Site. Since 2005, she and her late husband, Claude, had made their home in Winterville to be near their son, Martin and his wife, Kay. A selfless person by nature, Mrs. Redd will be remembered for caring for the needs of others. She took joy in serving and in her early years, Mrs. Redd worked with children at her home church, First Baptist Church of Aiken. During her lifetime, Mrs. Redd made many friends including a special group of ladies known as the "Lunch Bunch". A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Redd was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Claude Martin Redd, Sr. who died on January 29, 2007.
She is survived by her son, C. Martin Redd, Jr. and wife, Kay, of Winterville, NC, grandson, C. Martin Redd, III and wife, Tina, of Overland Park, KS, 2 great-grandchildren, sisters, Helen Liles of Greenville, SC and Ann Freeman and husband, Jerre, of Irmo, SC.
