AIKEN, SC- GERTIE MAE HOLMER, 83, beloved wife of Thomas Holmer, entered into rest Saturday, November 15, 2014.
Mrs. Holmer was a native of Statesboro, Georgia, a daughter of the late John and Lula Corley Gregory. She spent her working career in the plastic production industry and retired from the Saint Petersburg Times newspaper. Gertie was a loving and caring person. She enjoyed helping others, baking, crafting, and sewing dolls that she would give to those less fortunate. She loved listening to Gospel and Country music. She will be remembered as a very religious lady who loved her Lord. She always spoke of her love for her children.
Survivors in addition to her husband over forty years, Thomas Holmer, include, two daughters, Linda S. (Tony) Rhoden and Brenda S. (Ben) Newman, all of Aiken, SC; a son, Grady M. Scott, St. Petersburg, FL; eight grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Myrtie Ashley, Aiken, SC; two brothers, Warnell (Roxie) Gregory, Warrenville, SC and Clifford (Penny) Gregory, North Augusta, SC; a sister-in-law, Francis Gregory, Aiken, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Holmer was preceded in death by her first husband, Grady Scott; a daughter, Sandra K. Scott; three brothers, Donnie, Odell, and Linwood Gregory; and three sisters, Grace Toole, Lucille Key, and Maggie Seeby.
A private family graveside service will be held in the Warrenville Cemetery. The Reverend Greg Bowen officiating. Following the graveside service, the family will receive friends Wednesday, November 19, 2014 from 2:30 until 3:30 PM at Grace Presbyterian Church, 49 Varden Dr., Aiken, SC 29803.
