AIKEN, SC - Command Sergeant Major Tommy Ray Minnick, US Army (Ret.), age 75, entered into rest Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Charlie Norwood VA Hospital in Augusta, GA.
CSM Minnick was born in Brazil, IN on June 24, 1941 to the late Morris and Genevieve Dixon Minnick. He patriotically served his country in the US Army for thirty years retiring as Command Sergeant Major (E-9). During his military career, he was in the signal core. He served in several locations in the U.S. and Europe, but mainly in the Far East. He was called from Panama to be the first Commandant of the NCO Academy at Fort Gordon, Georgia. For his efforts, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm 2 O/S Bars, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (4), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal (10th award), the Army Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon (6).
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jo Ann Minnick; three children; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a step-son and his wife; and a step-daughter and her husband.
Private funeral services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.
