The Funeral Mass for Dr. Kathleen Theresa O?Connell-Crowley will be celebrated Friday, August 12, 2005 at 11 AM at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken, SC. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Aiken, SC. A Christian Wake service will be held Thursday, August 11, 2005 AT 6 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC. The family will remain at funeral home until 8 PM following the wake service to greet friends.
Dr. O?Connell-Crowley, 66, of Aiken, SC, died Tuesday, morning, August 9, 2005 at her home.
Born in Astoria, NY, a daughter of the late Michael and Lillian West O?Connell, she had been a longtime resident of Bedford, NY and St. Augustine, FL, for many years prior to coming to Aiken, SC, in 1996.
Dr. O?Connell-Crowley was a free-lance Design/Marketing Consultant to both the fashion and national home furnishings industry. She was President of her own manufacturing firm in New York City, with gross sales of over four million annually. As well as being CEO of this firm, she was responsible for all design, sales marketing, advertising, as well as for the management of three Retail Designer Boutiques in the NY area, Madison Ave, Southampton and the Miracle Mile. She received her Bachelor?s in Business and Master?s in Marketing from NYU and earned her Doctorate in Philosophy/Psychology from Trinity.
Dr. O?Connell-Crowley had been a licensed psychotherapist in the New York and Vermont. She helped pioneer a specialized foster care program for emotionally disturbed and/or adjudicated delinquent adolescents, and has had eleven children in her personal care through this program. She was involved in the ministry of Christian psychotherapy for a year in St. Augustine.
She had also been a Real Estate Broker in Westchester County, NY, a Public Relations/Communications Coordinator for the American Petroleum Institute, an Executive Vice President of a promotional/marketing firm, Co-Editor of an International in-house monthly publication of the Reader?s Digest.
She was an Interior Designer NSID, NHFL and Estate Sales Specialist. Dr. O?Connell-Crowley was a former member of the White House Design Consultation Board and had done extensive lecturing on design.
Dr. O?Connell-Crowley was a published author/poet who was included in the anthology of American Poets. She was also an internationally recognized artist and craftsperson. She had also been a model and spokesperson for several name brand products.
Dr. O?Connell was an inventor and holder of a U.S. patent held valid in
1980. She also held an FCC Radio Broadcasters license.
She as a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and was very proud to be Irish.
She is survived by her husband, George D. Crowley, six stepchildren and brothers, Thomas O?Connell, Delhi, NY and Michael O?Connell.
In addition to her parents, a brother, Patrick O?Connell, preceded her in death.
