Memorial services for Mrs. Marilyn McLauchlin Whitley will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 2pm at St. John's United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. George Howle officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church in Ward Hall. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be directed to Aiken Artist Guild, PO Box 148 Aiken, SC 29802 or the American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsden Street, Columbia, SC 29201-2392. Mrs. Whitley, 78, of Aiken, died Monday, February 4, 2008 at her residence. Born in St. Matthews, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Almeta Burke McLauchlin She lived in St. Matthews and Miami, FL before moving to Aiken in 1953. She graduated from USC with a master's degree in Art Education. She worked at DuPont Savannah River Site and retired from the Aiken County School System after seventeen years of service as an art teacher. She loved to paint and travel. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward Arnold Whitley, sister, Frances Davis, and brother, John McLauchlin. She is survived by her sons, Peter Whitley, Mike Whitley, both of Augusta, and Kurt Betsy Whitley, Woodstock, GA, sister, Helen Riley, St. Matthews, SC, grandchildren, Eva Whitley, and Zachary Whitley.
