A Requiem Mass for William Henry "Bill" Maloney will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in Smith Hall. Interment, with military honors, will be private. Arrangements are under the care of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. Mr. Maloney, 82, of Aiken, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Trinity Hospital following a lengthy illness on Monday, September 22, 2014. Born in Bristol, New York, he was the youngest son of the late Ray and Evelyn Barner Maloney. Bill served in the Korean Conflict as a flight engineer attaining the rank of staff sergeant in the US Air Force. He built his professional career in industrial dam and large residential home construction, moving his family throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. He retired as a Project Manager for Inland Steel. He was a longstanding communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and a faithful member of the Msgr. George Lewis Smith Council #3684 of the Knights of Columbus attaining his 4th degree. He received the Knight of the Year award for his service in 1996-1997. Around Aiken, he was known as the Bird Man for his interest and knowledge of exotic birds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Peggy Young, Anna Mae Derouchie, Jean Santimoor, his brother, Bob Maloney, and his grandson, Ryan Maloney. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Jackie Maloney of Aiken; a daughter, Sherree Blankers (Archie) of Elgin, Quebec; sons, Kit Maloney (Lucy) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Flint Maloney (Linda) of Pasadena, California, Clay Maloney of Homewood, Illinois and Steel Maloney (Melody) of Lebanon, Oregon; 9 grandchildren (Justin Blankers, Mitchell Blankers, Elisha Blankers Wallace, Ross Maloney, Dirk Maloney, Bailey Maloney, Paige Maloney, Drew Maloney, Teagan Maloney) and 3 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Building Fund at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 203 Park Avenue, SE, Aiken, SC 29802.
