Mr. Robert F. "Bob" Starks, 76, of Aiken, S.C., died Saturday, March 31, 2007, at the University Hospital, Augusta, GA.
Son of the late Carl and Leona Starks, Bob was born in Memphis, TN. He was an Eagle Scout, graduated from Central High School in Memphis, and attended two years at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. He earned a Bachelors Degree from Memphis State University, where he was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Bob served his country as a United States Marine in the Korean War. He was employed for 33 years by The New England of Boston, MA., working in Dallas and then managing the New Orleans office. Upon promotion to Regional Marketing Director, Bob moved to Kansas City then to San Francisco, from which he retired.
During his life he served as President of the New Orleans Chapter of Life Underwriters Associates, on the Advisory Committee of The New England Group Managers, attended many meetings for The New England in the USA and abroad, and was a member of the Old Englanders Group.
Bob and his wife Bobbie retired to Lafayette, LA, until 1999, when they moved to Aiken.
Since retirement, Bob was active in Woodside Men's Golf Association, a Woodside Men's Wednesday Golf Group, Aiken Senior's Golf Group and served on the Board of the Aiken Performing Arts Group.
A memorial service for Mr. Robert F. "Bob" Starks will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at 2:00 pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Avenue, SW, Aiken, with Reverend Robert T. Byrne, ELCA, of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aiken, and Chaplain Alan Faulkner, MDIV, BCC, of Medical Oncology Associates, Augusta, GA, officiating.
