Funeral services for Mr. James Monroe Lackey will take place on Thursday, October 7th at 11 am at Millbrook Baptist Church with Dr. James Rivers officiating. Interment will take place at Southlawn Cemetery and will be private for the family. Honorary pallbearers will be: Joseph Cunningham, James Cunningham, Dennis Vowell, Willis Collins, Welcome Short, Bob Cain, Glen McKinney & Reed McGuire. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-7pm at George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Mr. Lackey, 87, of Aiken, died Monday October 4th at Eden Gardens Health Care Center, Aiken. A son of the late George Lawrence and Linnie Snowden Lackey, he was born in Bailey Mississippi and had lived in Aiken since 1952. He was a retired steamfitter for B. F. Shaw, Co. and was a member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Local #150. Mr. Lackey was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his wife, Maurine Horton Lackey, who died in 2003. He is survived by two daughters; Glenda Bunce, Columbia & Judy husband, Joseph R. Cunningham, Aiken, a sister; Marie Davis, Meridian, MS, four grandchildren; Leah Bunce, Washington, DC, Joseph wife Crystal Cunningham, Summerville, SC, James A. Cunningham, Charleston, SC and Claire M. Cunningham, Charleston. She also leaves two nieces; Jacquelyn Wilson Chapman, Aiken and Peggy Joyce Wilson, Port St. Lucie, FL.
