Funeral services for Mrs. Jean Hamrick Niland will be held on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 1pm at the chapel of George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Interment will follow at Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-6pm. Memorial donations may be directed to the Aiken SPCA, 401 Wire Rd. Aiken, SC 29801.
Mrs. Niland, 86, of Aiken, died December 17, 2007 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. She was the widow of John T. Niland.
Born in Webster Springs, WV, she was a daughter of the late Baker and Bertie McLean Hamrick. She was a graduate of Webster Springs High School and Mountain State College. While in West Virginia, she worked for the West Virginia University Extension Service and during WW II, she was employed with the selective service board. After moving to South Carolina with her family in the early 1950?s, Mrs. Niland worked for 25 years for DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. Throughout her career, she contributed to and worked with many charitable organizations.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Niland was preceded in death by 5 sisters; Mae Mace, Elsie McCutcheon, Hazel Hamrick, Frances Hines and Charlotte Thompson and a brother; Connell Hamrick.
She is survived by her daughter; Cindy Niland, Aiken, a son; John Niland, Charleston, SC, a sister in law; Jeanne Hamrick, San Jose, CA, a brother in law; Kenneth Thompson, Phoenix, AZ and many beloved nieces and nephews.
