Funeral Services for George F. Palmer will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2003 at 11am at George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Pallbearers will be Andy Morrell, Christopher Burns, Joseph Worley, David Channel, Elliott Houser & Lawrence Burdette. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Memorial Donations should be directed to VFW Post #5877 Hwy 19, Aiken, SC 29803. Mr. Palmer, 72, of Aiken, died Monday at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A son of the late Kenneth & Katherine Jones Palmer, he was born in Chagrin Falls, OH. He lived in both Aiken & Elmont, NY since 1948, before retiring to Aiken in 1973. He was a retired jockey and had regularly raced at Saratoga and Belmont Park, NY. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of VFW post #5877, Aiken. He was pre-deceased by his wife Margaret who died in 1984. He is survived by his son; Greg Palmer, Aiken, a step-daughter; Linda Smith, Graniteville, and a brother; Gary Palmer, Cleveland, OH.
