Obituary of Floyd Carr

Funeral services for Mr. Floyd Carr will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 2pm at Green Pond Baptist Church with Revs. Davis Barton and Frank Lengel officiating. Pallbearers will be Brian Gootee, Brad Gootee, Bruce Hill, Beau Hill, Bid Hill, Jonathan Hill, Clinton Moore and Chad Walden. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, Aiken.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, 6-8pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Memorial donations may be made to Green Pond Baptist Church, Jackson or to the
American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
Mr. Carr, 73, of Aiken, died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at his residence.
A native of Elizabeththon, TN, he was the son of the late Vernon Carr and the currently living Kate Ellis Carr. Shortly after graduation, Floyd enlisted in the US Army, serving two years. He was then called back up to serve another year in 1961. He worked as a construction painter following in his father's footsteps on several construction sites including SRS. As part of his paint career that span over 52 years, he was a paint steward, glazier, assistant business agent for painters local union # 1756, paint instructor for Schenk Job Corps Center in Pisgah Forest, NC and for the local union #1756 pprenticeship program in New Ellenton, SC. His career also included being a civil engineer at SRS.
He believed in serving his community, as he was a scoutmaster and a little league baseball coach. He was also active in the Jaycees and Youth Sports, contributing to the football field in New Ellenton. He also enjoyed shark fishing and hunting.He was probably best known for his passion for building unique homes,four in all which involved dismantling army barracks, a two-story barn, a tobacco barn and even an old homestead.
In addition to his father, Floyd was pre-deceased by a brother, Howard Carr and by his first wife, Carol Hitsman Carr. He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Theresa Hill Carr, a son; Kevin Floyd Carr and his wife Vonnie, and two daughters; Margaret
Therese Carr and Bridgette Michelle Carr, of Aiken; his mother, Kate E. Carr, a brother; Sam Carr and his wife Diane and a sister Juanita Ellison and her husband Richard, all of Elizabethon, TN. He was also
endeared to Theresa's family; Sheryl H, Gootee and her husband Marvin, Gainesville, FL; Eddie Hill and his wife Jean, Plum Branch, SC, David Hill and his wife Linda, Prosperity, SC Bobby Hill and his wife Debbie, Aiken, SC, Church Hill and his wife Tara, Aiken, SC. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Sierra Yvonne Carr and Dalton Floyd Carr and numerous nieces and nephews.
