Dear Mom,
I am so sorry about Bill. I thought we would have many more opportunities to spend time together. I am grateful for the times that we had, and the wonderful memories. I am grateful for the love, care, and friendship that he had with you. Bill was an amazing man, one of the most diligent and hardworking men that I have ever known. Even though he was often in pain, I never heard him complain.
I appreciate the interest that he took in my family. My family loved him.
What a wonderful hope that we have, that those who are in Christ will one day be reunited!
You are in my thoughts and prayers always.
I love you.

Bill was my front yard friend. I'd come in and he would be out front doing something creative in his yard. We would talk about his plants and his landscaping and I'd always kid with him that he was doing a good job of making my yard look bad. And we would discuss those darn acorn trees we had. He would say those trees won't be big enough to matter in our lifetime. Darn it Bill..you left me to contend with that acorn tree.
Bill will be missed and I am so glad to have known him.

Dear Bill, I was a young man when you came into my life and you became a father and a friend to me and my sister, Deb. You were the best thing that ever happened to my mother Betty; and I know she loved you for all the almost 40 years that you were married. We have had many happy memories together; bowling on leagues with my mother, my wife Mary, her brother Bob; golfing, fishing, baseball games, vacationing and sharing many holidays together. You were Gramps to my son Mick, who spent summers on Lake Poinsett, Florida from his 8th year to his 16th year. Thanks for taking such good care of him. I know you enjoyed all your "boys"; we were riding in your Mustang convertible with Mick, his sons Chase and Drew and myself, when you grinned and said "It doesn't get any better than this." I'm sorry the last few years were not quite what we would have wished. Please rest in peace and keep on eye on us the way you used to do. Love Richie

Bill--
You were more than a stepfather to me. You were more like a father/friend to me. It has been a privilege to have had you in my life these past five years. I know you are in God's hands, and out of pain. You will be greatly missed.
You were my Mother's true love, and she yours. I witnessed nothing but kindness, decency and love towards my Mother. I appreciate that. I will miss coming over to watch all of the ball games together.
Love,
Mike Melton

Bill,
I will always appreciate that you were there for me when I was going through my separation/divorce. Watching Mackenzie & Philip run into your arms for a big hug always warmed my heart. I will treasure the memories of you taking them for tractor rides and picking black berries in the back yard. You are Gramps to them, and I am grateful for having you in our lives. Thank you for the love and care you had for my Mom. I have a deep admiration and respect for you, and I know you are aware of that.
You are deeply missed.

You often said "these are the happiest years of my life." Being married to you was joy, Bill. Being sports buddies, never missed a baseball or football game. We cheered, often for opposing teams, and laughed. You were full of mischief with twinkling blue eyes. Every bedtime kiss was accompanied with "I love you--more than you can know."
We helped each other through serious surgeries, and chronic health problems. You had daily excruciating pain. You were the toughest guy ever.
My children & grandchildren love their Gramps. Their Christian upbringing showed in their words & actions as they accepted you with love & respect.
You served your country with distinction. Respect was of utmost importance. Disrespect shown to a loved one hurt you deeply.
You died in my arms. I have no regrets. I am at peace, as are you in the arms of your Savior. See you in Heaven, my love.

We'd like to send our condolences to all that have survived him. It is unfortunate that he did not live closer to his family so that we might all have known each other better. The few times we had cause to interact he was a pleasant man - not secretive but a man of few words. I'd also like to say how much I appreciate the help he provided in giving me a foundation for my genealogy research.

Thelma my deepest condolences for your loss. Bill, or Gramps as my kids called him, was one of the most decent, kindest men I knew. While we only knew him for 5 years, my kids loved their Gramps and he loved them. Thelma, you were truly blessed to have this man in your life. Your love and care for each other was a testimony to many. We will miss Bill greatly. I thank God for his service to this country, and for his love for you and his love for my family. Although the pain is real, we can take comfort that he is in Heaven now with his Saviour in a better place, and you and we shall see him again.
