A Funeral Mass for Mr. Calvin Cleon Wheeland will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 3pm at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Lung Association 1817 Gadsden Street, Columbia, SC 29201-2392 or to Regency Hospice, 105 Summerwood Way, Suite D, Aiken, SC 29803. Mr. Wheeland, 80, of Aiken, died Friday, July 24, 2009, at his residence. Born in Cogan Station, PA, he was the son of the late Niel and Beulah Kibe Wheeland. Calvin grew up on his Father's farm, and after graduating High School, he enlisted in the Air Force for two years. After marrying his wife in 1950, Frieda, he moved his family to State College, PA, where he owned an Auto Body Repair business. In 1971, Calvin moved his family to Aiken, SC, where he owned and operated a golf course for several years and then turned to the pipefitting craft to complete his career. Throughout his life, Calvin took great pride in his work and held himself to the highest ethical standards. Calvin was a parishioner at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, participated in Perpetual Adoration, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in State College, PA. Calvin was a committed and loving husband and father and a good friend to many. His hobbies included golf, dancing, writing poetry and designing and crafting beautiful belt buckles. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Darrell Wheeland, and Dean Wheeland, and his sister, Gladys Wheeland. Calvin is survived by his wife of fifty nine years, Elfrida "Frieda" Raisch Wheeland, children, Mark E. Rita Wheeland, Jacksonville, Fl; Karen L. John Poore, Aiken; Craig M. Anne Wheeland, Villanova, PA; Shawn M. Dolores Wheeland, Aiken; Regina A. Camarse, Glenshaw, PA; brother, Virgil Wheeland; sister, Neva Fankowsky; grandchildren, Whitney Newton, Adam Poore, Traci Wheeland, Emily Wheeland, Keagan Brander, Lucy Wheeland, Ryan Wheeland, and Hannah Wheeland.
