Mrs. O'Connell died in her home on December 22, 2010 as a result of brain cancer at the age of 87. The widow of Dennis O'Connell and the daughter of Sarah and Joseph Galloway, Mrs. O'Connell was an active, inquisitive, and caring person who enriched the lives of everyone she knew. Mrs. O'Connell retired from the Savannah River Plant, where she worked as a federal employee in the payroll department for forty years, attaining the rank of 'Federal Coordinator'. She was devoted to her family, a constant friend, and an active member of the community. She loved her husband deeply and cared for him through a prolonged illness. Her children could not have had a better mother. She taught them to strive to be their best selves and loved them unconditionally. In her later years, she enjoyed participating in a number of community organizations. She was especially fond of her friends in Town and Country. Always active and engaged in life, Mrs. O'Connell was a great traveler and someone who sought continually to grow in her understanding and appreciation of others. Mrs. O'Connell is survived by her two sons, Dennis J. O'Connell of Aiken, S.C. and Sean P. O'Connell of New Haven, CT. She will live in their hearts always. May this gentle soul with a strong will and generous heart always be held in the palm of God's hand.
