A funeral Mass for Robert Charles "Bob" Nicosia, US Army, ret. will be celebrated by Fr. Gregory Wilson on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 10:30am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Interment, with military honors will take place at 2pm at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia. GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, Aiken is assisting the Nicosia family. Memorial donations may be directed to the Shriners Children Hospital, 950 West Faris Rd. Greenville, SC 29605. Bob ascended into heaven on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, surrounded by his loving family. A son of the late John Nicosia and Sadie Fischella Nicosia, he was born in New York City. After a career in the Army, stationed around the world, he had lived in Enterprise, AL before moving to Aiken in 2010. Bob was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1981 after twenty seven years of service, including tours in Viet Nam and multiple tours in Europe. A thirty second degree Mason, Bob was a member of the Scottish Rite and Shriners. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, DAV. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his grandson, Robby Nicosia who died in 2001. Bob is survived by his loving wife of fifty six years, Viola Bonomonte Nicosia, Aiken; two sons, Bob Renee Nicosia, Bakersfield, CA and Dale Susan Nicosia, Aiken; a brother, John Nicosia, Astoria, Long Island, NY; a sister, Marie Lacarbua, Astoria, Long Island, NY and six grandchildren, Nicole, Kelly, Amber, Alexandra, Allison and Shelby. He is also survived by five great grandchildren and his beloved dog, Precious.
