Funeral services for Dr. Gordon M. Nichols, Sr., PhD. will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 1pm at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Aiken. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of David Nichols, 2124 Beaver Creek Lane, Aiken tonight from 6-8pm. Memorial Donations may be directed to St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church 125 Pendleton St. SW Aiken, SC 29801. George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Dr. Nichols, 90, of Aiken, died Thursday at his residence. He was born in Savannah, GA and had lived in Aiken since 1951. Before retiring in 1980, he had been a chemist for DuPont at the Savannah River Site. He served in the United States Army in the European Theatre and was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Aiken. He is predeceased by his parents; Max Montague and Mary Gordon Nichols, his wife, Ophelia Mary Park Nichols, a daughter, Katherine P. Nichols and two sons, Gordon M. Nichols, Jr., who died just a few hours after him and Stuart Nichols. Surviving are two sons; David Nichols, Aiken and Capt. Christopher Nichols, US Navy, Annapolis, MD, a sister; Nancy Bright, Savannah, GA , brother, Sam Nichols, Fullerton, CA and five grandchildren; Max M. Nichols, Stuart G. Nichols, Maury J. Nichols, William G. Nichols and Anna O. Nichols.
