Funeral services for Donald Lewis Jenkins, 87, of Aiken, will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Chapel of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. Officiating will be Pastor Phillip Lee, burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Jenkins passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, he was a son of the late Caleb and Madelyn Denny Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins Enlisted in the US Navy in 1947, and attained the Rank of Chief Aviation Machinist's Mate before accepting a Commission as Chief Warrant Officer. Mr. Jenkins retired after 22 years of active duty service in 1969. After the Navy, his passion remained in aviation and he obtained his pilot's license, private and commercial. He was licensed as an Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic and owned three private planes, one of which he built in his garage over a 4-year period. Radio Controlled Model planes became his hobby after retiring.
Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, Dolores Perry Jenkins of Aiken; a daughter, Dawn Jenkins Smith (Darryl) of Aiken; a son, Donald L. Jenkins, II (Kerri) of Lake Wylie, SC; 6 grandchildren, Neil, Tyler, Ryan, Eric, Sarah and Leah and 5 great-grandchildren, Abbigail, T.J., Andrew, Emma and Elizabeth.
