Edward Hilton Powell, 82, of Aiken entered heaven on August 2, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Mildred H. Powell and three step-daughters and their husbands, Patricia H. John Newton, Beverly H. Larry Mixson, and Teresa H. Randy Brown, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his former wife and two step-sons. Mr. Powell was born in Suffolk, VA on September 24, 1926. He was a proud veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy. He was retired as a supervisor from E.I. Dupont Compnay at the Savannah River Plant in 1984. He was a dedicated, Christian man and a member of River of Life Church. He was a lifetime member of Gideons International. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who spent his life loving and caring for others. Memorials may be made to the River of Life Church or to Gideons International. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 3pm at the George Funeral Home & Cremation Center Chapel with Pastor John Zimmerman officiating. Pallbearers will be: Buddy Berry, Lonnie Chavis, Roger Rollins, Tony Franklin, Mark Brown and Wayne Mixson. The family will receive visitors from 2pm until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Aiken Memorial Gardens.
