AIKEN, SC - Mr. Jack Harold Smith, 81, beloved husband of 60 years to Mary Margaret Smith, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Lewis Smith.
Mr. Smith was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, a son of the late Lewis and Rheata Matthews Smith. He was a graduate of West Virginia University. While in College, he was a member of the Rho-Chi Pharmacy Honorary, the Phi Lambda Upsilon Chemistry Honorary,and Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Mr. Smith was a pilot in the USAF. While stationed in Dover Delaware,he was Assistant Chief of Staff of the base hospital. He was an avid West Virginia fan and enjoyed reading and golfing. Mr. Smith retired from Thrift Drug in West Virginia.He was a second generation pharmacist. He worked at the Aiken Drug Company and Medical Center Pharmacy after moving to Aiken. He was a Deacon and Elder at the Fairmont Presbyterian Church and an Elder at South Aiken Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, Mary Margaret, Mr. Smith is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Smith Fox (Timothy) of Bel Air, Maryland and Margaret Ellen Smith Hamman (Gary) of Aiken; grandchildren, Robert Timothy Fox (Laura), Brenton Andrew Fox (fiancé, Sarah Aversano), Abigail Smith Hamman and Elizabeth Anne Hamman and one great-grandchild, Charlotte Ann Fox.
Memorial services for Jack Harold Smith will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at South Aiken Presbyterian Church, under the care of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. Burial will be private.
