Mr. Swing,
I know this is a little late, but I just found out. My condolences to you and your family.
I went to sign the guestbook of my friend, Josie Whittle, who passed. I'm sure you remember her. She used to drive a bus for Oakwood also.
That's when I saw your wife's memorial.
I think of you and the the old staff that used to be at Oakwood often!
Take care and remember she is in a much better place than we are.
Love,
Mary Narramore Ringley

Kyle, I found peace in this poem that I used in my Father's obituary.
"May he support us all the day long, till the shadows lengthen and the evening comes and the busy world is hushed and the fever of life is over and our work is done - then in his mercy - may he give us a safe lodging and a holy rest and peace at the last".
John Henry Newman 1801-1890
God bless you and your family.

M. Anne never treated me like a daughter-in-law. She always referred to me as her daughter. We could spend hours on the phone together, laughing and talking about everything. She taught me what it means to be a lady "I don't know how to pump gas!" and how important family is. I only got to spend 22 years with her, but I cherish every moment. I miss you, Mom. I'll miss you every day. Thank you for being such a big part of my life and for accepting me into your family. I love you so much.
Love,
Deb

Dear Swing Family,
I am Janet Percle's daughter. I was so sad to hear about Mary Ann. Oddly enough, I was just thinking about her the other day and remembering sitting with her at her kitchen table helping her make mints in the shape of leaves for a wedding that she was catering. I remember her always being patient, kind and loving. She was so very wonderful to me, and I am so thankful that she was a part of my life. Please accept my sincerest condolences.

Dear Swing Family, I am sure Mary Ann has left a memorable mark on South Aiken Presbyterian Church and the community as well. She was a great lady & dear friend. I can imagine she and Dot are hand-in-hand now discussing all those good cakes and cookies they have baked over the years. For all her love of children, she has helped to make this a better world

Mary Ann and I shared a granddaughter, Jill and she was such a role model for her as well as others she encountered in her life. God sent me to see her in person the week before she went into the hospital for the last time and I thank Him for that. She was a true Steel Magnolia.

"Iâ??ll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home. I know what Iâ??m doing. I have it all planned outâ??plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for." Jeremiah 29:11
Saturday afternoon, in the same hospital where two of her grandchildren came into the world and breathed their first breath, Mary Ann Swing, quietly left this world and the family that she loved with her entire heart.
Around that same time, I sat weeping in our guest room as I went through a bag of our daughter's long ago outgrown clothes, gently folding those I could not give away, including many that were created with Mary Ann's loving hands. These one of a kind garments were created by her to clothe Jill, then later Anna, Abigail and our Allie. I was always glad to brag on Mary Ann's talent in her sewing room and was always eager to taste and enjoy where she truly created at her best, in her kitchen.
When we first moved to Aiken, none of us dreamed that a huge part of our future family would be living at the entrance to our neighborhood. As I had sleepovers with my friend Michelle Dabolt, I didn't know that Jill's future grandparents lived next door. And I never knew that the union of Debi and Jeff and his adoption of Jill would bring us all into the Swing family where we would be welcomed so warmly.
As I have gotten older, I have changed my mind about those who leave this world and go to another. I used to grieve with as much intensity as I loved that person. Now, as the people I say goodbye to are leaving a world that confuses and upsets me, I find that I am happy for them. Mary Ann leaves behind an illness on Earth that she never let stop her from living and loving life. She now walks with God free from pain. She has reunited with her parents and her brother and others she lost. She has a peace that passes understanding and I have a peace that she is no longer lying in a hospital bed, but is now the angel whose name I know. In heaven's kitchen, she is most definitely on staff.
Mary Ann, I can't thank you enough for being such a fine example of what a mother should be and how a Southern woman should behave. I would say that she was someone who was never afraid to let her hair down, except that she always had her hair down. She would greet you at her door in bare feet, apron wrapped around her and a cold drink pressed into your hand before you ever took a seat. You could lose hours sitting in her den talking to her, with Jerry sitting there taking it all in.
Jerry, Jeff, Kyle and Sid, you were so lucky to share a home with this woman for so many years and be the absolute center of her life. Her wisdom is sprinkled all over you and her grandchildren, in laws, family and friends. We are all better for having her in our lives and knowing the words that came from that sweet Southern voice of hers, the one thing I will miss most.

Hey Mom,
Now that you and Melissa are in Heaven together watching over me, I guess I better straighten out. I guarantee you one thing; our little girl will be well protected for as long as I take a breath on this earth. I've made a pact with Brian to ensure we take care of our little ladies. You and Dad are my best friends and I will always remember the bond money I owe you! I love you and assure you I will not dissapoint you. I still cherish the bible verse you shared with me when I was in my time of trouble. You truly are the best. You and Dad saved so many kids and still had time to save your own. I'm not that sharp on quoting verses, but I think there's one that says as a parent, you are responsible for leading your children to Christ. From our many conversations, I think you know you have done your job. I love you and will make sure I keep Dad straight...or maybe it's the other way around. Watch over the children, especially Brian's. Hey, thanks again for sewing that vintage Harley patch on my shirt. Only you and I will ever know where that rip came from that you fixed. I love you Mom. I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. She was a very special lady and will be missed by many. Your parents made the greatest day of my life all the better with their fantastic catering 12 years ago. In many ways, your mother touched the lives of so many people - she made a big difference. God Bless you and your entire family at this time. Remember that though she is not with you in body any longer, she will forever be with you in spirit until you are together again.
