Funeral services for Mr. Richard G. Gunter will be held Monday, December 20, 2004 at 3 PM at St. John?s United Methodist Church, Aiken, SC with Reverend Gene Mullikin officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Pallbearers will be James Caprell, Vernon Derrick, Dick Irvin, George Ray McClain, Russell Mangum, Frank Price, Lamar Keisler, and Robert Sharpe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Austin Willing, Daniel Magness, members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and members of the Voiture Locale 1177 Forty & Eight. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 19, 2004 from 6 until 8 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC. Mr. Gunter, 77, of Aiken, SC, died Friday, afternoon, December 17, 2004 at University Hospital, Augusta, GA. Born in and a lifelong Aiken County, SC, he was a son of the late Elliott B. and Camilla Kennedy Gunter. A World War II veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army where he obtained the rank of Corporal. Mr. Gunter was in partnership with his son Scott in Tri-Chek Seeds, Inc., Augusta, GA. He was a member of St. John?s United Methodist Church, Aiken, SC where he was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and was also a member the American Legion Post 26, Voiture Locale 1177 Forty & Eight, GA & SC Seedsmen?s Associations, and the Southern Field Seed Council. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Jean McClain Gunter, sons, Richard Glenn Gunter, M.D., Diane Rock Hill, SC and Scott Douglas Gunter, Sandra Aiken, SC; sisters, Christine Caprell, Aiken, SC and Ruby Mangum, Summerville, SC; grandchildren, John H. Gunter, Olivia L. Gunter, and Bradd William Sasser; and a great-granddaughter, Caitlin Marie Sasser. The family has asked that memorials be made to St. John?s United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 809, Aiken, SC 29802 or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1247 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo, SC 29063.
