A Funeral Mass for Mr. Charles "Charlie" William Mudge, Sr. will be celebrated Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 11am at St. Mary Help of Christian Catholic Church. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary Help of Christians Building Fund, PO Box 438, Aiken, SC, 29802. Mr. Mudge, 87, of Aiken, died Friday, February 8, 2008 at his residence. Born in Pieve, MS, he was the son of the late William Frank and Dixie Belle Lang Mudge. He moved to Aiken in 1999 from Blairsville, GA. He retired from Bellsouth at age 55 and began a new career as an emergency medical technician. Mr. Mudge found his true calling when he became a Santa Claus. He was best known as "Santa Charlie" and worked at the Lakeshore Mall, Gainesville, GA for fifteen years, the Woodbridge Mall, Woodbridge, NJ for fifteen years, numerous regional print ads and television commercials. For the last eight years he worked locally with the Make a Wish Foundation and local photographers. He was a communicant of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3684. He served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was well known for his skill at hand carving canes and walking sticks. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Nona Catherine Burke Mudge, four brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Stephen White, Aiken, Frances Skip Penney, Maitland, FL, Christine Fred Taylor, Gilbert, SC, Barbara Doug Aylor, Midland, TX, sons, Charles Mary Beth Mudge, Jr., Cumming, GA, Billy Tina Mudge, St. Augustine, FL, fifteen grandchildren, and 11great grandchildren.
