Funeral services for Mrs. Lerline "Sam" Nolan will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 3pm at Solid Rock Baptist Church, Aiken with Revs. Jamie Rogers and Ronnie Powell officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be Friday evening, from 6-8pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Memorial donations, in her name, may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Nolan, 65, of Aiken, died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
A daughter of the late Robert J. and Mattie L. Weatherford Thornton, she was born in Florence, SC and had spent many years traveling as a Navy wife before moving to Aiken in 1974. Before retiring a year ago, she had been the business office administrator for Edward Jones investments, Aiken. A member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, she trusted in the Lord with all her heart. She was a wonderful wife and an excellent mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She volunteered at the Aiken Council on the Aging and was also an accomplished square dancer.
She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Nolan, Aiken; a son, Richard J. Nolan, II, and his wife, Teresa F. Nolan, Aiken; two daughters, Evelyn Lerline Mills, Aiken and Teresa Nolan Foster and her husband, Bubba Foster, Aiken; a brother, Robert Thornton, Florence, SC; and two sisters, Patricia Thornton, Evergreen, SC and Roberta Whitaker, Lancaster, SC. Mrs. Nolan is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
