The Burial Office for Mrs. Marita Crofton Rappleye will be offered by Father Garret Clanton, Rector, at All Saints Anglican Church, Aiken Monday, April 7, 2008 at 10am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 1pm at The Church of Our Saviour, Park Ave. at 38th St New York City. Interment will follow in Locust Valley, Long Island. Mrs. Rappleye, 80, of Aiken, passed away on Thursday April 4, 2008 at her residence. Marita was born May 1, 1927 in New York City to Arthur and Anne Crofton. Marita was an accomplished artist who was known for her still lifes. She started painting in the early 70's, studying under David Leffel at the Art Students League. Her first marriage to James Dougherty with whom she had her daughter Dianne Montague Edward deceased ended in divorce. Marita then married S. Joseph Tankoos a real estate investor in New York City. She had two children with Joe Tankoos, Bradley J. Tankoos Deborah and Lisa Tankoos Holmes Douglas. She is survived by her husband Willard C. Rappleye, Jr. a journalist and editor. Marita is also survived by her 3 grandchildren, Philippa Essig, Abigail Montague, Eugenie Montague. Memorial donations may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 35-A Varden Dr. Aiken, SC 29803.
