Funeral services for Mr. John William ?Bill? Jennings will be held Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 11 AM at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Aiken, SC, with Father Leon Mozeliak officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Walter Riddick, Kenny Gaylord, Bill Finley, Phil Woolhiser, Charles Goodman, and Hines Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Aiken Lions Club and Aiken Senior Mens Club. The family will receive friends Friday, January 10, 2003 from 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Jennings, 78, of Aiken, SC, husband of the late Jane Sanford Jennings, died Sunday, evening, January 5, 2003 at home.
Born in Newark, NJ, a son of the late Harry Judson Jennings and Ada Grenfell Jennings, he had lived in Martinsville, VA for four years prior to relocating to Aiken, SC in 1955. A Civil Engineer, he retired from E.I. DuPont after forty years of service. Following graduation from college, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was an active member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church where he served as an usher. Lion Bill Jennings was a very active member of the Aiken Lions Club and devoted countless hours and dedication to the club. Lion Bill held every office in the Aiken Lions Club and at the time of his death, he held the position of Treasurer. He loved to travel to see his family and many friends.
A son, Paul J. Jennings, Parker, CO; daughters, Becky J. Verastegui, Knoxville, TN and Teresa J. Davis, El Paso, TX; grandsons, Frankie Davis and John William ?Will? Jennings, II and two granddaughters, Monica Verastegui and Joann Davis, survive.
The family has asked that memorials in memory of Mr. Jennings be made to the Aiken Lions Club, c/o the Leader Dog Fund, P.O. Box 3271, Aiken, SC 29802.
