Aiken, SC-Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn K. Girton will be held Monday, November 25, 2002 at 3 PM at George Funeral Home, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC, with Pastor Don Soule officiating. Interment will follow in Sierra Hills Memorial Park, Sacramento, CA. The family will receive friends Monday, November 25, 2002 from 1 PM until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Girton, 88, of Aiken, SC, and formerly of Sacramento, CA, wife of the late Duward Girton died, Friday, morning, November 22, 2002 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, Aiken, SC. Born in Mercer County, OH, on the same day that World War I started, August 1, 1914, a daughter of the late Joseph A. Howell and the late Flossie Hines Howell, she had lived in Sacramento, CA, for thirty-two years where she retired from McClellan Air Force Base after twenty ?five years of service as a Inventory Management Specialist. In 1991 she relocated to Aiken, SC, where she was a member of Grace Brethren Church. A son, Kenneth A. Girton, and his wife Rebekah, Aiken, SC; brother, Joseph Howell, New London, OH; brother-in-law, Leland V. Girton, Ruggles, OH; grandson, Tech Sgt. USAF, Kenneth Richard Girton and great-grandson, Eric M. Girton, both of Yuba City, CA, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, survive Mrs. Girton. Ten brothers and sisters preceded her in death and in 1990, a granddaughter, Heather Marie Girton, also preceded her in death. The family has requested that memorials in memory of Mrs. Girton be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box Drawer K., Aiken, SC 29802.
